Wanaka in Winter - July to September

Frost dried powder, slick half-pipes, sweeping bowls, black-diamond chutes or off piste chutes… whatever your choice for snow style Lake Wanaka, with the largest skiable terrain in Australasia, can match it.

A stable continental climate ensures crisp sunny winter days with an average temperature of 10 centigrade and cool frosty nights with temparatures below zero.

The stellar terrain makes for fun, reliable skiing all winter.

The views from the mountains are endless: out across the islands and inlets of Lake Wanaka or the patchwork green and gold of farmland and row upon row of white-capped peaks stretching to the horizon.

The world-class ski resorts of Cardrona and Treble Cone offer quality terrain to suit absolute beginners and hard-core skiers alike.

Harris Mountains Heli-skiing and Southern Lakes Heliski will fly you to the best slopes within its 3000 sq km range of pristine peaks.

Waiorau Snow Farm is New Zealand’s only Nordic and cross-country ski area.
Snow Park caters for the freerider and snowboarder with half pipes, table tops and rails.

Its carefully groomed trails snake across the high Pisa plateau and ski in/ski out accommodation is available for the adventurous.

The après ski atmosphere adds to a day on the snow with numerous cafés, restaurants and bars serving food and wine to warm the soul.

Locals invite visitors to enjoy the atmosphere further by taking part in the annual week-long Winter Festival in October.

Check out the joint five day joint ski pass at Cardrona and Treble Cone websites.
