150 more entries to be allowed...
18 September 2012 - Due to unprecedented demand, Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival today included the Lake Wanaka Half teams wait list to allow a further 150 athletes into the popular half distance triathlon.
Entries for both the full distance Challenge Wanaka and the Lake Wanaka Half are up significantly for the 2013 event on 19 January with over 1,400 athletes already signed up.
“With over 150 athletes on the waitlist we made the decision to increase the field size for 2013 so they could all enjoy the Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival experience,” said race director, Victoria Murray-Orr. “The spectacular setting of the event, combined with the opportunity to race alongside the world’s best on the iconic Challenge Wanaka course make this one of New Zealand’s ‘must-do’ triathlons and it’s a great way to prepare for the full distance Challenge Wanaka in future years.”
Following today’s inclusion of the wait-listed teams, Lake Wanaka Half team entries will revert back to a waitlist with no plans to further extend the field. Entries for the Lake Wanaka Half individual race, along with Challenge Wanaka teams and individuals remain open until 30 November 2012.
The week-long Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival runs from 13-19 January 2013, opening with the Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka and also featuring a 5km charity fun run, swim the course, a health and lifestyle expo as well as Tri NZ’s Contact Cup sprint race on 18 January featuring many of New Zealand’s top short course triathletes. The Festival attracts over 2,000 participants
