East Block Riesling 2012 is Supreme Champion Wine at the Avenues International Aromatic Wine Competition
We are wrapped to announce that the Maude, Mt Maude Vineyard, East Block Riesling 2012 has been awarded the Supreme Champion Wine in Show Trophy at the Avenues International Aromatic Wine Competition, which is celebrating ten years of competition in 2012.
The Avenues International Aromatic Wine Competition is open to all Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and other wine varieties including Gruner Veltliner, Verdeldo, Arneis and Sauvignon Gris, made in an aromatic style from any internationally recognised region.
‘It is so great to see our Riesling receive the best wine in a Wineshow where the aromatic varieties are the heroes.” Sarah-Kate says.
Mt Maude is a family-owned vineyard & winery located just outside of Wanaka in Central Otago. The estate was planted in 1994 on the steep north facing slopes of the sheltered Maungawera Valley by Dawn & Terry Wilson. Daughter, Sarah-Kate & her husband Dan make the wines in their custom built winery in Wanaka.
“The Riesling from the Mt Maude Vineyard is without doubt one of the prize wines in our winery. We are very lucky to have such quality riesling fruit coming from this mature Wanaka vineyard, the raw ingredients are exceptional and our role as winemakers is really to be the caretakers of this wine – ensuring the beautiful aromas and flavours in the riesling grapes are nurtured through the winemaking and to make sure they are fully expressed in the glass’ commented Dan.
The Maude, Mt Maude East Block Riesling 2012 will be available for tasting at the Wanaka Wine & Food Festival this Saturday & Sunday (20th & 21st of October) as part of Wanakafest.
