Calci Yum Kids Cup is back for a fourth year these school holidays at Cardrona
The ever-popular Calci Yum Kids Cup is back for a fourth year these school holidays at Cardrona Alpine Resort.
It kicks off with a one-day mini slopestyle competition on Wednesday July 11 for five-to-11-year-olds to show off their ski and snowboard skills.
Cardrona Sales and Marketing Manager Nadia Ellis says it’s a great way to start the 2012 junior competitions and due to popular demand a second event will be held on August 4.
“We just love this event at Cardrona. It’s so exciting to see the next generation of snow athletes having fun and becoming involved with competition,” she says.
“We’re always looking for more ways to give our younger ski and snowboarders exposure to competitions so it’s fantastic to turn the Calci Yum Kids Cup into a series this season. The second event will also be a slopestyle but include a gravity cross for those keen on a bit of racing.
“The Cup is great for kids of all abilities, with the focus on just taking part in the competition and having a go at freestyle in a friendly environment.”
The Kids Cup will take place on the custom-built Weston’s Park course on the McDougall’s trail.
“The course includes table top jumps, boxes and rails for beginner and intermediate abilities. Competitors will have time to practice before performing in two judged runs,” says Ms Ellis.
“Judges will score the kids based on their variety of tricks, execution and technical difficulty.
“We’ve got some great sponsors on board and competitors won’t be disappointed with prizes from Dragon, Rossignol, Whippersnapper, Lonestar Wanaka and plenty of Calci Yum to go around.”
