Lake Wanaka has a vibrant arts community of painters, sculptors, photographers, carvers and writers.

Take an arts trail and visit them in their studios or see their work in the towns galleries.

If you're looking for heritage then Wanaka has some of the best collections of heritage items you'll see anywhere. Hundreds of toys, classic rare cars and historic planes to amaze and reminisce over.


The biennial Festival of Colour is a celebration of the arts against the spectacular backdrop of Lake Wanaka in autumn. Each autumn those looking to expand their creativity flock to the Autumn Arts School taking part in lessons in everything from etching to photographer, woodwork to stained glass window.
