A challenging walk to the summit of Roys Peak that rewards hikers with spectacular views of Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps
The all-encompassing panorama from this 1,578-metre summit includes most of Lake Wanaka, the surrounding peaks and Mount Aspiring/Tititea. This is an exposed track and temperatures can drop quickly, even in mid-summer. Please take warm and windproof clothing. This track is not recommended during winter due to snow and ice.
Note 1: Track closed for lambing from 1 October to 10 November. Please check with Department of Conservation's Wanaka office on the track status.
Note 2: There is no water available on the track, please ensure you have sufficient supplies as it can be very hot in summer. The only toilet on the track is located 200m from the Roys Peak car park.
Note 3: During peak summer season the car park can be very busy, so please consider alternative transport to the start of the track. Shuttles and taxis are available, or consider riding a bike or walking along the Waterfall Creek track to the start.
