A challenging one-way day walk but with spectacular views of Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps
This challenging hike begins with the track to Roys Peak on Mt Aspiring Road. From the summit, follow the ridge line over Mt Alpha and descend through snow tussock to a 4WD track. Then follow the poled route via Spotts Creek to the Cardrona Road, 10km from Wanaka Town. This track is prone to low cloud cover. Not recommended during winter due to snow and ice.
Note 1: Roys Peak Track is closed for 1-month in spring (October-November) for lambing. Please check track status with Department of Conservation's Wanaka office.
Note 2: Please note there is only one toilet on this track which is situated 200m from the Roys Peak car park. There is no water available on this track and it can ber very hot in summer so carry sufficient water with you for a 10hour walk.
