Tourism delivers clear economic benefits to New Zealand and, as this grows, leaders in the tourism industry will need to step up to the challenge of ensuring growth is sustainable and seen positively by society.
Governance within the sector will be tasked with balancing economic and environmental impacts, infrastructure demands and communities’ expectations around quiet enjoyment.
We are delighted to welcome Norm Thompson to our branch event in Wanaka. Norm has a distinguished career in New Zealand aviation and tourism, most notably 46 years with Air New Zealand where he rose through the ranks and held the role of Deputy CEO prior to his retirement in 2013.
Norm is currently the Chair of the Safety and Operational Risk Committee on the Board of Queenstown Airport, Chair of the Young Enterprise Trust Board, Deputy Chair of Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Panel, and a Director of Preno Ltd and Golf New Zealand.
Past notable governance terms include Chair of the Air New Zealand Environment Trust, Chair of Altitude Engineering, a Director of Tourism New Zealand, Dot Kiwi Ltd, and Deputy Chair of Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED).
He is an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business and tourism.
