5 things to do in the Mt Aspiring National Park that aren't hiking

We all know there are some of the best hikes in New Zealand found in the Mt Aspiring National Park! But sometimes the legs are sore or there's a need for a different perspective. Below is a list of activities that do just that.

A hidden secret of the National Park - huge spectacular canyons! Descend by jumping, abseiling and sliding down waterfalls, and boulders, swim and float through water- sculpted rock features and deep clear pools.
Beginner to advanced options are available with the first canyon company in New Zealand, Deep Canyon, while South Canyons offers three locations between Wanaka and Haast. And don't think you have to be particularly fit or brave to do this!

Scenic Flight

What better way to really see the whole National Park in the least amount of time? Get a birds' eye view with a scenic flight.
Airborne options include: Southern Alps Air, U-Fly Wanaka and Classic Flights - Vintage Biplanes

Jet Boat

The rivers may look far too shallow but jet boats were made specifically for them! This is an exhilarating way to get into the National Park. The trip with Wanaka River Journey enters the National Park via the Matukituki River and also includes a small nature walk so you can really get to experience the natural environment. With Wilkin River Jet you journey into the National Park via the Makarora and Wilkin Rivers.

Go Luxury

Take in the spectacular views from the comfort of NZ's highest accommodation -  Whare Kea Chalet is located 1750m high on the Albert Burn Saddle. Four months of the year it's covered in snow, and in summer the slopes of tussock grass are dotted with wildflowers.

It’s a luxurious base for many Mount Aspiring National Park adventures!
