Dog Friendly Walks

Many of the tracks around the Wanaka region are suitable for dogs but please check first as many cross working farms where walkers and hikers are generously given the opportunity to explore.

But do not fret! You and your four-legged friends can enjoy the following tracks... however, please ensure you read the signs at the beginning of the track to be absolutely certain. You may also want to be aware of the council bylaws regarding dogs on leashes and remember folks, if your doggy DOES – you DO dispose of it!

Please note: Dogs are strictly forbidden on Mou Waho and Stephenson Islands due to the presence of the flightless Buff Weka. If you take a dog onto these islands you may be fined.

Sort the tracks by their ratings:

  • Easy - mostly flat
  • Medium - undulating and some short steep pitches
  • Hard – Uphill with sustained, steep pitches – high level of fitness required
  • Use the filter to refine your search
