Half Day Walks Around Wānaka

As is the case with all of the tracks and trails in the area, a wide range of terrain and levels exists for those hankering to get amongst the wilderness. Want to experience the beauty and natural wonder of the region, but don’t have enough time to overnight? The Wānaka region and Mt Aspiring National Park provide some of the most scenic and diverse half day walks in the country.

Ranging from flat to undulating to steep and challenging, the variety of half day walks will keep even the most avid hikers wanting more. Most half day walks require some degree of fitness, though please do your research before you attempt some of the steeper tracks, for example Roy's Peak.

  • Easy - mostly flat
  • Medium - undulating and some short steep pitches
  • Hard – Uphill with sustained, steep pitches – high level of fitness required
