If you are in Wanaka on a Thursday evening, make sure you head down to the local Farmers Markets. You will find everything from handmade chocolates and cakes, to award winning breads and pastries, as well as roasted chestnuts and mulled wine in the wintertime.

Wanaka is surrounded by produce of all kinds and The Wanaka Farmers Market was established in 2007 to provide local gardeners and producers with a village-style market venue, to showcase and sell their produce.

Since then, it has grown into a firm favourite with locals, and is one of the few farmer’s markets in New Zealand to be held year- round.

Among the vendors attending the farmers market are:

  • The People's Bread - Supreme Runner-Up at the Cuisine Artisan Awards 2016 for their multi grain sourdough loaf. They will even deliver your loaf of bread to you on their electric-powered bike if you order online.
  • Pembroke Patisserie – Winner of the Cuisine Artisan Awards 2016 for their Gingerbread Biscuits. Their custard squares are also renowned and disappear fast.
  • Ground Up Brewing - Winner of the People's Choice Award for the New Zealand IPA Challenge.  

Also available from the market are organic eggs, fruit and vegetables, local honey, pickles, cakes (often gluten, vegan & refined sugar free), Cardrona lamb, certified organic skincare, wood ware and handmade soaps.

If you can’t make it along to a Thursday market, then some of these products are also available from local cafes and bars. Try Fedeli, Mediterranean Market, Kai Whaka Pai, or Soul Food - just ask a local and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.
