Wanaka Weddings: Estelle & Kim

They're living in another beautiful part of the world now, but Estelle and Kim knew they had to get married at home in New Zealand.

And they chose lovely Wanaka. Check out how they celebrated their incredible day on the lakeshores.

Why Wanaka?

We chose Wanaka for the beautiful scenery and because we have shared many memorable experiences here over the years. We knew right from the start that we wanted an outdoor ceremony and Wanaka is just the place. It was also a great location for our families and friends to enjoy, especially those that travelled from afar. We kept our ceremony location a secret, and had organized bus transport from The Venue (our reception location) to the ceremony site at The Olive Grove, so it was awesome for everyone to arrive together and take in the amazing view.

What was your favourite part of your Wanaka wedding?

Two parts really stood out for me. We had our bridal party photos before the ceremony at an amazing lakeside spot near Glendhu Bay. Kim was facing out to the lake when I arrived, and it was so exciting to be slowly walking down towards him and then seeing his reaction when he turned around. Another favourite moment was walking down the aisle of trees at The Olive Grove towards Kim with all our friends and family there to celebrate with us.

What time of year did you choose to get married and why?

We chose early March as we wanted an outdoor ceremony and knew (and hoped!) that the weather would be pretty warm and consistent in February and March. And we ended up with perfect weather for our big day!

Any advice for other brides?

Make sure that everything is organized before the big day and then just relax. Don’t stress about the little things and just enjoy your day.

And when choosing a dress, remember to keep your options open – I went dress shopping with the idea that I wouldn’t have a train and not much lace. Luckily my sister and mother had other ideas, and after trying on this dress, I knew it was the one!

What is your 'must-do' when getting married in Wanaka?

While it is easy to get caught up in the big day, make sure that you have time to catch up with all of your friends and family. We did our wedding party photos before the ceremony, giving us an extra couple of hours before the reception to just enjoy the sunshine and relax with all of our guests.
