The best Wanaka walks with a view (that aren't Roy's Peak).

Let's be honest - we all like to get the hero shot after a decent walk.

For some it's the main reason for doing it.

We've put together some alternative options that deliver the views, but are still a great way to get out and explore the Wanaka region.

Grandview Mountain track

A great intermediate climb with a gradual incline. The views don't get really spectacular until the end, so stick with it!

This track takes about 4-5 hours return.

Getting some views in up Grandview

Sawyer Burn

You can see why Hollywood chose to film A Wrinkle In Time near this walk. This steep, but relatively short walk (2 hour return to view point) has stunning views that take in Lake Hawea.

Rocky Mountain

One of the closest options to Wanaka - Rocky Mountain is a great walk with plenty of stunning view points. It also has several loop options, which means you can walk for just an hour or choose to do the whole trip, which takes 2.5 - 3 hours.

Isthmus Peak

The word is out! Isthmus Peak (pronounced iss mus) is both an enjoyable and challenging walk with spectacular views. Take water, food, good hiking shoes and a camera!

Takes 5 - 6 hours return
