Hone your skills at one of Wanaka's bike parks
Home to New Zealand's highest bike park, Cardrona Alpine Resort offers chairlift-accessed downhill mountain biking (including lessons), NZ's only mountain carting, hiking trails, sightseeing gondola rides, alpine dining and stargazing. With two lifts (McDougall's Chondola and Whitestar Express), Cardrona Bike Park, offers over 25km of downhill mountain bike trails, including the famous Peak to Pub trail, with over 1200m of vertical descent. Wanaka's newest bike park - Bike Glendhu, has over 1,000 hectares of terrain on Glendhu Station overlooking Lake Wanaka with some of the most stunning views imaginable. The 30km network of tracks, for riders of all skill levels, will leave you pumped and coming back for more - so it's just as well it's open almost all year round!
Lismore Jump Park is Wanaka's BMX and MTB jump park, with multiple lines and well-maintained features. The park has different lines, catering from beginner to expert with everything from a fun pump track to big gap jumps.
A short ride from town, the Sticky Forest network of trails makes the best of the local pine forest. There are over 20 tracks to choose from; from the technical switchbacks of Stumpy and Yumpts, to the beautiful berms of Venus, to Crankin' Fine's legendary uphill corkscrew, these trails are expertly designed to be enjoyed by intermediate and pros alike.
