Getting out on the water is easy in Wanaka
Paddling in the Wanaka region could easily become an obsession! The stunningly remote Matukituki and Makarora Rivers in the Mt Aspiring National Park, the mighty Clutha River (New Zealand’s largest river by volume), and the Hawea River white water wave, make kayaking in the Wanaka region outstanding for all abilities.
Try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding (SUP). For first timers you can take a lesson, or for the more experienced they are available for hire on the lakefront throughout the year, either way stand up paddle boarding is a peaceful way to explore on water. The next challenge is to take on the rapids with a guided tour on the beautiful Clutha River.
For the speed freaks, give water skiing, wake boarding, water surfing, wake skating, fly boarding or even fun on a towed inflatable a go with a purpose-built boat and an instructor who will make sure you keep improving.
