Walking & Hiking in Wanaka

Walking around Wanaka is one of the best ways to see the beauty of the area

Whether it's walking to a world-class winery, or climbing a mountain, there's literally a track for every fitness level, with photo opportunities around every corner.

Mt Aspiring National Park will tempt the serious hikers and climbers, and there are plenty of highly experienced guides to help you summit a peak.

But Wanaka’s for everyone, so if a stroll is more your style, there’s a great selection of short tracks close to town, that offer something suitable for the whole family.

Tramping, trekking, hiking, strolling, rambling - whatever you prefer to call it, Wanaka walks are stunning.

Wanaka is one of the most pristine parts of the world - so here's some tips on how to be a responsible traveller.

Visit the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Centre and the local DOC Visitor Centres for the latest track information and take a look at our maps and guides.

It’s also a great idea to check out the Outdoor Safety Code and if you decide to explore some of these please remember to sign in using the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process.
