Autumn

1 March to 31 May
Average temperature 16°C

The weather in Autumn is temperate - with crisp mornings, warm days and cooler nights making it the perfect time to get out and do some more active pursuits.

Head into Mt Aspiring National Park and walk the 3-day Gillespie Pass Circuit or explore the Matukituki Valley tracks, staying overnight in a backcountry hut.

With calm settled weather it’s also a great time of year for scenic flights, glacier landings and trips to Milford Sound and Mt Cook. Helicopter, plane or even a WWI Tiger Moth flying around Wanaka in autumn is an unforgettable experience.

Climb, bike, boat, fly – no matter how you decide to explore Wanaka in autumn the spectacular colours will add an extra element.
